Many patients come into our medical spa knowing the result they are looking for, but unsure of which treatments might work best for them to achieve that result. In many cases, when patients are simply wishing for smoother, brighter, and unblemished skin, a combination of two of our non-surgical skincare treatments
work best: medical peels and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments.
“Various skincare therapies work in different ways and on different layers of your skin,” explains medical spa director Dr. Lisa Pacheco. “When you combine two therapies that improve your skin in different ways, you get a better result. With IPL treatments and medical peel treatments, you may think of it as fertilizing your garden and then weeding your garden, which both work to build up your soil–that is, to build up your skin.”
Let’s take a closer look at both treatments, as well as how they work together to improve the appearance of your skin.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy For Rejuvenating Skin
IPL therapy is a type of laser light treatment that uses wavelengths of light to penetrate deep into the skin, encouraging the production of collagen and treating a number of different skin conditions, including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles.
- Acne scarring or other scarring.
- Brown age spots or other forms of hyperpigmentation.
- Rosacea or other types of redness.
- Spider veins.
- Broken or dilated capillaries.
- Sun damage.
IPL treatments are relatively fast, economical, and non-invasive when compared to ablative laser treatments. They also involve little to no recovery time and can be repeated in multiple sessions over time for optimal results.
Medical Peels and Infusion Masks
Unlike IPL treatments, medical peels and infusion masks focus solely on the top layer of skin, where much damage takes place, simply through life and exposure to the elements. Medical peels, also known as chemical peels, remove the top layer of skin and allow you to grow back a healthier dermis. Medical peels can:
- Make your skin smoother.
- Fight blackheads and clogged pores.
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
- Reduce the appearance of scarring.
- Reduce uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation.
- Reduce sun damage.
- Tone and firm your skin.
Like IPL laser treatment, medical peels are non-invasive and don’t require much in-office time or recovery time. The treatments are also more affordable and convenient in comparison to surgical options.
At our medical spa, we pair our medical peels with infusion mask, which use use epithelial growth factors in order to rejuvenate the skin and speed healing.
