Fighting Cellulite on All Fronts, From Lifestyle Changes to Medical Spa Treatments

Cellulite affects the majority of Americans, regardless of their age, sex, or weight (although it is more common in women, older people, and heavier people). In many cases, it can be unsightly or embarrassing, and most people would much rather have smoother, tighter skin than dimpled arms, legs, and bottoms.   What is cellulite, and what can you do to fight it? In this blog post, we will take a look at what you can do at home to help reduce or eliminate cellulite as well as the non-invasive medical spa treatments available to give you a lending hand.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite isn’t just fat. Instead, it’s when connective tissue bands under your skin become hard and inflexible, while your outer layer of skin becomes thinner and looser with age or wear. These two issues causing pockets of fat to form in a visible, bumpy, and uneven manner, resulting in cellulite.

The Fight Against Cellulite: What You Can Do

It’s important to know that cellulite is partially genetic: some people are simply more likely to suffer from the condition than others. It’s also important to know that even the strictest lifestyle changes may not completely rid your body of cellulite, especially in the most troublesome area, such as your thigh or bottom.   However, there are some things you can do to help combat cellulite–and many are good for your general health, too:
  • Exercise. Yes, you guessed it. Exercise does help combat cellulite. Not only does it help reduce fat in cellulite areas, it also improve circulation, which helps minimize cellulite.

  • Don’t sit still for too long. Cellulite can be a problem in areas that we sit on for long periods of time without movement, such as our bottoms. Especially if you work at a desk or in an office all day, be sure to get up and move around periodically to improve circulation.
  • Try body brushing, massage, and scrubs. Improving your circulation can feel really great. Body brushing, all types of massage, and scrubbing in the shower can all do good.

  • Apply lotion. Massaging lotion into your trouble areas not only helps improve circulation, but also keeps your skin moisturized, more uniform, and more elastic.

Non-Invasive Cellulite Treatments at The Surgical Arts Centre

Until recently, there haven’t been any non-invasive treatments for cellulite in trouble areas that have been both proven and approved by the FDA. But today, new technology has lead to several effective treatments that can help with cellulite that doesn’t disappear with exercise, improved circulation, and over-the-counter lotions.   At the Surgical Arts Centre’s Medical Spa, we offer SculpSure, a body contouring treatment that uses heat to destroy fat cells, which are then reabsorbed by the body. SculpSure is proven to be safe and effective at reducing fat cells and can help minimize the appearance of cellulite by decreasing the size of the fat pockets caused by inflexible connective tissue bands.   SculpSure may be an ideal solution for you if you exercise, eat right, and take care of your body, but still have a few stubborn trouble areas, such as on your stomach, thighs, or love handles. It may also be ideal if you have cellulite that hasn’t responded to your lifestyle changes.
