Laser Skin Resurfacing | Surgical Arts Centre

Laser technology has opened the door for treating a wide range of skin issues that we simply couldn’t solve before – from wrinkles and fine lines to shallow scars and large pores. Our CO2 surgical laser can accomplish more than many patients realize.

A Non-Invasive Treatment for Fine Lines and Scarring

It might sound too good to be true, but it’s possible that your wrinkles and skin irregularities could be significantly improved without scalpels and scars, with nothing more than the pulsating beams of light of a CO2 surgical laser.

In this state-of-the-art treatment, a laser is used to remove the top layer of your skin — the layer that has been exposed to the elements and that has experienced the wear and tear of your everyday life. At the same time, the laser stimulates the lower layer of your skin, encouraging collagen production.

The final result? Patients report significant improvements in wrinkles, shallow acne scarring, and oil pores.

The Procedure & After Surgery

Your experience at the Surgical Arts Centre will begin with a consultation with one of our physicians, who will listen to your story, review your medical history, and determine whether you are a good candidate for laser skin treatments. At this point, you and your doctor will review your best plan for treatment, learn about the procedure, and get all of your questions answered. You will also decide which areas of your face require treatment and choose your anesthesia method at this time.

On the day of the procedure, you will be prepared by receiving either local or general anesthesia. The laser treatment itself lasts between a few minutes and a few hours, depending upon the extent of your treatment. After the resurfacing is complete, your skin will be treated with a protective ointment and bandages. You will be evaluated in a recovery room after the procedure but may return home to continue your recover later that day.

Because ablative laser resurfacing eliminates one layer of skin and stimulates another layer essentially by wounding it, patients should expect a healing process that takes several weeks to complete. Your face will need to be cared for carefully and your newly-exposed skin will likely be red, swollen, and uncomfortable for ten days to two weeks following the procedure. You may be given medication to tend to your discomfort and swelling.

As your skin heals, you will begin to see the results of your treatment. Many patients report seeing their skin continue to improve even six months after the procedure is complete.
